News Ltd swoops for Kidspot to capture online mums

News Ltd has bought Kidspot, the 6-year old online parenting group, for an undisclosed sum. News claims the site counts over 1.3 million unique monthly visitors – double the traffic of its nearest rival.

The deal is expected to be completed on July 4.

The Kidspot portfolio includes Kidspot.com.au, Birth.com.au, Kidspot.co.nz and parental listings directory The Spot.

SheSpot, a female-targeted advertising portfolio, Research Studies, which provides marketers with research on women and mothers, Mums Say, a sampling and engagement program, and Baby and Kids Market, an offline parent-to-parent community, also come as part of the deal, while Kidspot’s Facebook page has 31,000 fans.

News Ltd chairman and CEO John Hartigan said: “This deal makes us the leading player in the highly valuable online parenting market and, by combining Kidspot with the most dominant food vertical, Taste.com.au, and the most aspirational fashion vertical, Vogue.com.au, we now have an unrivalled presence in the online market for Australian women.”
