Notably, the number of electronic warfare-related patent applications in the aerospace, defence & security industry was 1,242 in Q1 2024, versus 1,299 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 9% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Huawei Investment filed the most electronic warfare patents within the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 25 electronic warfare-related patents in the quarter, compared with 20 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Alphabet with 25 electronic warfare patent filings, Thales (23 filings), and Qualcomm (19 filings) in Q1 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 36% share of total patent filings
The largest share of electronic warfare related patent filings in the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q1 2024 was in China with 36%, followed by the US (23%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by China was 14% lower than the 49% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
