Dr Mumbo

Musk, Zuck and a big ol’ cage fight – it’s on!

Seeing two of the world’s wealthiest men, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, getting into a fistfight was certainly not on Dr Mumbo’s bingo card for 2023. But here we are.

Frankly, Dr Mumbo doesn’t even know where to begin with this one. In arguably the most ludicrous development in the business world this year (or ever), Zuckerberg and Musk were apparently arranging a cage fight to settle their beef once and for all.

It all seemed to begin with rumours that Meta, the owner of Instagram and Facebook, was developing a direct competitor app of Twitter. According to The Verge, the project has an internal codename, “Project 92″. Meta reportedly approached celebrities like Oprah and the Dalai Lama about being early users.

And Musk, being the 51-year-old with the humour of a 15-year-old, has been taunting Zuckerberg with hilarious tweets like “Zuck my 👅”. And when a Twitter user warned him to be careful of Mark’s ju-jitsu, Musk said:

Not another set of famous last words, Dr Mumbo hopes.

Nevertheless, Zuck appeared to have taken the request seriously and responded with a “send me the location” on Instagram. At the time of this article’s publishing, Musk suggested the Vegas Octagon, an UFC fights venue.

As much as Dr Mumbo had hoped for it to be a very belated April Fool’s joke, a Meta spokesperson confirmed that Zuckerberg was, in fact, dead serious. “The story speaks for itself,” Meta spokesperson Iska Saric told The Verge.

Oh dear.

But you know what, although this event was not on the 2023 bingo card, becoming more open-minded was one of Dr Mumbo’s new year’s resolutions this year.

Maybe instead of thinking about share prices and consulting stakeholders next time you make a significant move against your business opponent, the CEOs of all companies involved should just brawl it out in an old-fashioned way.

Sneesby versus Warburton perhaps?

Imagine if it took on the form of the final fight in Anchorman 2 with the top of Australia’s media and marketing industry throwing down.

It’s Friday, so enjoy.
